State of the art information system enhances patient care The Medical Group has entered a new era of information management with a computer system that will enhance the care that you and your family receive. The new system brings together your medical record with a wealth of medical data, adding speed and the power of information to your health care. The new system, a sophisticated software program developed by JMJ Tech, also integrates practice management with its medical information. The Medical Group is believed to be the first practice in Maine, and perhaps the nation, to integrate the two worlds. According to Jon Shill, MD, the integrated system has benefits for the patient and the caregiver. "Today's medical care is so complex and there are so many different pieces of information to look at, this system helps us to assess and process information quickly and efficiently." For example, he says, the electronic medical record has the capacity to track immunizations, health maintenance exams, and drug interactions. It also evaluates lab results, medical tests like EKGs and vital signs, which can be entered into the system in "real time", while the patient is in the office. "This saves us lots of time so we can spend more time with our patients, and it saves patients time by reducing waits for test results and assessments, " Dr. Shill explains. The launch of the new information system has meant a busy spring. Staff received extensive training, and many current procedures had to be adjusted. Overall, the launch has gone smoothly, says Practice Manager Weber Shill. "Our patients and caregivers are already enjoying benefits, but they may not even know it!" he says. |
